We have just completed a 12 hour day with the Olney Baptist Church! We sang in their morning service. You can watch a video of that here: https://vimeo.com/174111495
Pastor Joseph Randall and his Pastoral Intern, JC, both spoke at different parts of the service. They are passionate about reaching their community – which is very diverse and economically challenged – and sharing the Gospel. I believe that their zeal for evangelism is going to be of great benefit to all of us this week as we serve along side them.
After lunch, we began preparing for VBS this week, as well as sending teams out into the neighborhood to invite them to attend the Block Party and VBS. The Block Party preparations began around 3 pm as we had to set up for the concert as well as the food and games. Our students are hard workers! They did a great job all day. The Block Party lasted from 5-8 pm.
The choir sang for over an hour, followed by the Connect Worship Band and Leaders and some of our soloists. It took until almost 9 pm to get everything put away and well – we are exhausted! But – breakfast begins at 6 am and we have to leave at 7 am to get ready for a full week of mission outreach.
Throughout the morning and the afternoon, we were so encouraged as we watched the Livestream of the church service back in Carrollton as well as the social media posts following the service – it seemed like an amazing, uplifting time of worship. I have to personally thank John Green, Teri Goolsbee and Georgia Rutherford for all the extra effort that went into pulling off a lot of last-minute changes to make the services happen at Josey and The Fields. Our tech team was able to make videos of the guest speakers at Josey available to the 11 am service at The Fields – which took some doing! The shootings in Dallas are getting a great deal of national attention – and those we’ve met here in Philly have expressed their love and support for us.
As soon as we can, we will post some pictures from today!
